EVBox empowers Charge Point Operators to be compliant with the new payment provisions laid down in the EU’s AFIR
To support its customers with the new payment requirements laid down in the AFIR (Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Regulation) that will come into effect this month, EVBox is committed to offering compliant and future-proof EV charging solutions.
AMSTERDAM, April 4, 2024 — As Europe’s Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) approaches implementation on April 13th, EVBox, a global leader in electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, is pursuing to support Charge Point Operators (CPOs) in navigating and complying with the new regulations. AFIR, a pivotal component of the Fit for 55 package, aims to reduce the European Union’s net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55 percent by 2030.
AFIR’s focus is on accelerating the deployment of public charging points and streamlining payment methods bringing forth essential requirements for publicly accessible charging stations. EVBox is committed to facilitating a seamless transition for its customers with a suite of solutions that ensure compliance and future-proof business.
AFIR encompasses regulations for all publicly accessible charging stations regardless of location—be it on public or private property. CPOs and CSOs (Charging Station Operators) are particularly impacted by Article 5, which outlines the payment requirements for this type of charging infrastructure.
For publicly accessible charging stations with an output power of 50 kW or more, deployed after April 13, 2024, compliance demands the provision of payment options widely used within the European Union. EVBox addresses this requirement by integrating Payter payment terminals into all variants of its DC fast charging portfolio, including EVBox Troniq Modular and EVBox Troniq High Power. In combination with the Charge Point Management Platform (CPMS) EVBox Everon, the pricing on the station display will automatically be updated allows CPOs to offer AFIR-compliant public charging stations.
For publicly accessible charging stations with a power output below 50 kW, secure payment transactions via a Quick Response (QR) code are one of the allowed routes for ad-hoc charging. With EVBox solutions, drivers will be able to pay and initiate a charging session quickly and easily with their smartphone, powered by CPMS EVBox Everon. Upon scanning the QR code, drivers will be directed to a web page offering a transparent pricing overview with a selection of different popular payment options, such as credit card, to ensure a secure transaction and give drivers full control over their charging session.
Safe and secure payment on EV charging infrastructure has always been a top priority for EVBox. EVBox’s latest AC charging station, EVBox Liviqo, comes with a 5” display; with the ability to show a digital QR code on its screen. This QR code is easy to scan using a mobile phone. CPOs can enable this feature remotely, making use of secure OCPP communication to the station.
For public DC charging stations already in operation before April 13, 2024, AFIR necessitates the addition of a payment terminal by January 1, 2027. In response to this requirement, EVBox offers upgrade kits for all EVBox Troniq Modular and EVBox Troniq High Power products, enabling seamless compliance with this EU regulation.
In tandem with ensuring AFIR compliance, EVBox also highlights the future-proof capabilities of its solutions, emphasizing the significance of DC fast chargers EVBox Troniq Modular and EVBox Troniq High Power, commercial chargers EVBox Liviqo and EVBox BusinessLine, as well as the charging management platform EVBox Everon. These innovations not only align with current regulations, but also position CPOs for long-term success in the dynamic and evolving EV charging landscape.
